Nov 3, 2026

Another RAF wrestler with a new addition to his trophy case is back on the mat after a successful showing at Worlds as Kyle Snyder takes on one of the most feared mixed martial artists on the planet in Shamil Erdogan LIVE at RAF Abu Dhabi.

Kyle Snyder is wasting no time getting back on the mat after capturing his fifth World gold medal. Only two weeks after the successful trip to Astana, Snyder will be met by Shamil Erdogan, one of the most feared “wrestle-first” mixed martial artists the division has ever seen.

After once again proving that he's still the most dominant wrestler on the planet at 97 kg, Snyder immediately has another challenge waiting for him. This time, it's not another decorated international freestyle wrestler looking to take his spot, it’s an undefeated Dagestani-born Turkish powerhouse who has built his reputation on making world-class athletes look helpless.

Snyder has, once again, reached the top of the mountain at Worlds where he added yet another gold medal to his shelf but before the descent back down is already meeting another challenger who can completely steal the wave he’s currently riding.

He should come in with the swagger of a man who proved, yet again, he’s one of the greatest of all time but he’s running into an opponent with a unique skillset that makes him a threat to play spoiler if “Snyderman” is coasting.

Erogdan, the 36-year-old Turkish standout was born in Dagestan and has competed as a member of both the Russian and Turkish national wrestling teams. He stepped away from full-time focus of wrestling to transition to a mixed martial artists, where he's built an incredible 14-0 record, finishing every opponent he's faced in his career due in large part to his wrestling.

His wrestling background has given him the ability to close distance, control opponents and impose his physicality translating into a devastating MMA style.

Erdogan has the ability to come into RAF Abu Dhabi and prove that his wrestling pedigree and combat sports dominance translates against one of the greatest American wrestlers of all time. Snyder has another opportunity to remind the world that there's a difference between being a dangerous fighter and being able to wrestle with the best.

STACK 'EM UP

Shamil Erdogan: A 36-year-old Dagestani-born Turkish athlete with a background in international freestyle wrestling and an undefeated 14-0 professional MMA record. A former member of both the Russian and Turkish national wrestling teams, Erdogan is for his suffocating top pressure, physical strength and ability to transition seamlessly from takedowns to dominant control.

Kyle Snyder: Snyder is one of the most accomplished American freestyle wrestlers of all time. A 2016 Olympic gold medalist, 2020 Olympic silver medalist and five-time World Champion, Snyder has built his reputation on technical precision, relentless pressure and an ability to find offense when opponents least expect it. Already 5-0 in RAF and the reigning Light Heavyweight Champion, Snyder continues to prove that his wrestling is a problem for anyone willing to step across the mat.

‍

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Snyder's Technical Precision: Erdogan has made a career out of overwhelming opponents with physical pressure and wrestling-based control but Snyder operates at a different level of technical precision. His ability to win hand-fighting exchanges, control positioning and create openings through seemingly insignificant movements is what separates elite international wrestlers from everyone else. If Snyder can dictate where the exchanges happen, as he usually does, Erdogan could find himself chasing positions rather than creating them.

Erdogan's Physicality and Pressure: Erdogan is not someone who waits around for opportunities. His combat sports career has been built on closing distance, getting opponents to the ground and making them work every second they're there. He's demonstrated an ability to use his freestyle background and unmatched physicality to overwhelm opponents with relentless pressure and dominant positioning. If he can bring that same grit into RAF, Snyder could be in for one of his most demanding matchups yet.

Snyder's Re-Attacks: Stopping the first attack is only half the battle against Snyder. One of his most dangerous qualities is his ability to immediately transition from defense into offense. If Erdogan takes a shot and Snyder gets his hips back, he doesn't necessarily look to reset. He can use that defensive reaction to counterattack, turning Erdogan's attack into a scoring opportunity. Against an opponent who likes to dictate exchanges, Snyder's ability to punish failed attacks could be huge.

It's the opportunity of a lifetime for Erdogan to play spoiler and another chance for Snyder to prove that the world's best wrestlers are still a different breed. One man has never lost a professional fight. The other has spent his career making sure the best in the world know exactly why he's an Olympic champion.

Only one will leave Abu Dhabi the RAF champion.
