LIGHT BEER

The lightweight division just got even more interesting. Previous Olympic-favorite turned mixed martial artist Aaron Pico makes his return to wrestling to square off against NCAA finalist turned mixed martial arts champion, Lance Palmer. This match has all the ingredients to become one of the most memorable battles on the RAF10 card.
Pico was the favorite to be the next NCAA and Olympic legend before stepping away from the sport to begin his MMA career in 2017. Now in the UFC with a professional record of 14-5, Pico has decided to get back to the mat and isn’t exactly dipping his toe in, he’s taking on an NCAA finalist and 3-time RAF veteran, Lance Palmer.
Pico brings violent offense, relentless pressure, explosive attacks and the confidence to force exchanges most opponents try to avoid. Palmer brings veteran composure, positional discipline, steady hand fighting and the ability to drag opponents into exhausting battles where experience and a smart, conservative gas tank becomes the deciding factor.
Both men understand positioning, pace and punishment at the highest levels of combat sports and wrestling. One mistake could end a sequence immediately or one adjustment could completely change the direction of the match. It’s one of the most high-level matchups on the card and the Chaifetz Arena may be rocking the first time one of the two gets a hold of the other.
The somewhat opposing styles will most certainly clash but neither competitor plans on changing what brought them success.
Can Pico deliver a statement performance in front of the RAF crowd in his return to freestyle or will Palmer remind everyone why he’s been one of the toughest competitors in combat sports for well over a decade?
Built For Real American Freestyle
Aaron Pico: A dynamic and explosive athlete with a background rooted in elite freestyle wrestling and world-class combat sports experience. Pico thrives in chaos, forcing action through powerful attacks, fast level changes and relentless forward pressure. His ability to create offense in short windows makes him one of the most dangerous athletes in RAF.
Lance Palmer: A battle-tested veteran and NCAA National finalist known for composure, toughness and positional awareness. Palmer excels in grinding matches where discipline, mat control and consistency become the deciding factors. He rarely overextends, rarely breaks structure and has built a career around forcing opponents to wrestle at his pace.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Pico’s Explosive Entries: Pico’s ability to close distance quickly and attack before opponents settle into rhythm can completely change a match early. If Palmer struggles to slow those first exchanges, Pico could build momentum fast.
Palmer’s Match Control: Palmer’s experience allows him to dictate uncomfortable positions and wear opponents down over time. If he can consistently slow the pace, win hand fighting exchanges and keep Pico from creating open space, the veteran could turn this into the type of grind-heavy match he prefers.
Pico’s Confidence In Open Space: Pico is most dangerous when matches open up and reactions replace structure. His speed advantage becomes much more noticeable in the open mat where he can create angles and attack before opponents reset. If he forces Palmer into wider exchanges instead of controlled ties, the younger athlete’s explosiveness could take over.
Both men carry elite-level experience and proven toughness but only one will leave RAF10 with momentum on their side. Can Aaron Pico make good on one of the biggest returns in the history of the sport or will Lance Palmer send him back to the MMA cage?
