Kyle Snyder vs Givi Matcharashvili - Championship Effort

Another RAF event, another international challenger for Kyle Snyder’s light heavyweight title. “Snyderman” has taken on almost every wrestler within 20 pounds of him for over a decade now and left a lot of angry opponents behind. Some claw their way back to rematch the Olympic gold medalist and others have been left to think about it for life. Rarely do competitors get a “perfect time” to toe the line with the three-time NCAA National Champion.

Givi Matcharashvili may have just found that opportunity.

Snyder’s most recent performance will go down as one of the most exciting matches in RAF history when he rallied back from 6-0 to defeat Rizabek Aitmukha, one of the most promising up and comers in the sport, by a final score of 12-6.

The Philadelphia crowd was as electric as they’ve ever been when Snyder celebrated with a primal scream. There’s always going to be new mountains to climb but for that moment, the RAF Light Heavyweight Champion appeared to have reached the top of the world.

What did Matcharashvili see when he was tuning in? Did he see an indestructible force or a wrestler due to emotionally wind down after a big win?

Matcharashvili’s RAF debut in February was far from an easy night out when he took on another seemingly indestructible force in Stephen Buchanan. Buchanan has been surging since his National Title victory for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2025 and threw everything he had at Matcharashvili but was ultimately put away by 3-3 criteria.

Snyder has previously defeated Matcharashvili twice but the three-time Euro Champion sees himself coming into the match hungry against a Kyle Snyder who may be satisfied with his last performance.

Snyder is a very well-rounded wrestler but if Matcharashvili exploits his explosiveness in small bursts and short exchanges he can pick up where Aitmukhan left off against Snyder at RAF 08. Matcharashvili is much more comfortable in upper-body attacks and overhook entries. Can he pair his fast-bursts and with his upper-body upperhand, he might walk out with his hand raised.

On-paper there’s a path but Matcharashvili will have to overcome one of the greatest international wrestlers of all time. Snyder’s sustained activity and pace has made him one of the most dangerous chain wrestlers currently in a singlet. His heart also can’t be questioned especially after his last night out.

He’s got elite positional discipline and as we saw at RAF 08, is never out of a match. If Matcharashvili finds himself ahead, it’ll be important to stay composed and pinpoint perfect scoring opportunities instead of forcing them. Matcharashvili is one of the best in the world but Snyder’s ability to exploit mistakes is simply too strong.

It will take a championship effort from both men to walk out of Dallas with the RAF title.
