In a division known for explosive matchups, Real Woods vs Ibragim Ilyasov will be sure to live up to the featherweight reputation. With unpredictable styles and cardio for days, RAF Featherweights seem to always steal the show. It could come down to the wire or one man could run away with it.
Styles oppose one another and that’s not something either man is worried about.
Ilyasov brings the methodical pressure, calculated ties, conservative risks and a willingness to win ugly if that’s what the match demands. Woods brings urgency, creativity and the ability to manufacture offense from positions most wrestlers can’t convert.
Can the former Iowa Hawkeye continue giving RAF fans classic matches or is Ilyasov poised to introduce himself to the RAF fans in an unforgettable way?
Built For Real American Freestyle
Ibragim Ilyasov: A compact, positionally-sound international freestyle wrestler known for disciplined hand fighting, mat awareness, and defensive structure. Ilyasov thrives in low-scoring battles where control of the center and small positional wins decide the outcome. He is difficult to open up, difficult to separate from and even harder to pull away from once the match begins to narrow.
Real Woods: A highly technical and adaptable NCAA-finalist known for pace variation, clean setups and the ability to score in bursts from neutral. Woods is at home when he’s reading opponents, forcing reactions and capitalizing on openings created by pressure, quickness and movement.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Woods’ Tempo Shifts: Woods has a knack for changing speed mid-exchange. Most don’t catch the routine of slow tie, sudden burst, immediate finish attempt. By the time opponents have changed gears to adjust, it’s too late. If he can repeatedly force those tempo swings, Ilyasov’s measured style becomes harder to sustain.
Ilyasov’s First Step: Ilyasov isn’t known for his explosivity but can he make the first move and keep Woods near the edge of the mat, he can repeatedly score step-out points that Woods has been susceptible to for most of his RAF career.
Woods’ Hand Fighting Weapons: Woods is at his best when hand fighting turns into aggression and speed. If he can win the hand fighting exchanges consistently and set up for his athleticism to take over, Ilyasov will be forced out of his structure and rhythm and into reactive wrestling which favors the former Hawkeye.
Both men have a unique style with specific keys to unlocking the victory but only one can put themselves in the win column.
