LIGHT BEER

Wrestling has always been a sport defined by discipline, repetition and respect for the whistle but every so often personalities collide in a way that turns a technical contest into something far more volatile. When Dillon Danis and Colby Covington share the mat at RAF 07, the skill and technique will be there but the mystery of what may come with it may carry just as much intrigue.
While the two have never had public discourse, the buildup alone will carry the energy of a boxing PPV rather than a wrestling showcase.
Danis arrives with the reputation he has carried throughout both jiu-jitsu and MMA circles. Equal parts technician and agitator, the New Jersey native has built a career on elite grappling credentials mixed with an almost unmatched ability to get under an opponent’s skin long before the match begins.
On the mat, Danis thrives in chaos.
His style revolves around opportunism. Don’t let Danis’ rabble-rousing fool you, whether hunting submissions from scrambles or creating them from moments of overcommitment, Danis is comfortable in positions many grapplers would rather avoid entirely. When a match breaks down into unpredictable exchanges, it’s often exactly where he wants to be.
While Danis may be a jiu-jitsu-heavy grappler, he’s nearly impossible to take down and even harder to hold down. Your favorite grappler or fighter would trade almost anything for his guard-abilities and his no-gi focus gives him grip strength and a focus on technique over friction already making him a threat in wrestling.
Across from him stands a man who built his entire career on eliminating that kind of unpredictability.
Colby Covington enters RAF competition with the same identity that made him one of the most relentless wrestlers in mixed martial arts. A pace that never drops, pressure that rarely fades and positional discipline that forces opponents into exhausting battles for every inch of space.
Where Danis welcomes chaos, Covington builds his style around preventing it.
The NCAA All-American’s wrestling is rooted in control and attrition. Covington’s approach isn’t always about the most spectacular takedown or the flashiest scramble but rather the slow accumulation of advantages that leave opponents reacting instead of initiating.
That mix of styles and personalities makes this matchup one of the most intriguing clashes on the RAF 07 card.
Danis will look to disrupt the structure Covington depends on. He can also utilize his jiu-jitsu skillset to his advantage by being comfortable in positions wrestlers avoid at all cost.
If the match turns into a series of unpredictable transitions, Danis becomes increasingly dangerous with every exchange.
For Covington the path to victory is more traditional to the wrestling mat.
Pressure forward, establish positional dominance and refuse to allow Danis the space needed to create the kind of chaos where submissions appear from nowhere. By forcing prolonged tie-ups and grinding exchanges, Covington can slowly drain the explosive opportunities Danis thrives on.
If he keeps the match structured and methodical, the pace alone may become his greatest weapon.
On paper the skillsets and matchup is relatively easy to break down but we’ve never known quite what to expect with Danis or Covington. They’ve never had a public spat but trouble seems to follow them both wherever they go. What are the fans in store for at RAF 07? Only time will tell!
