Andrew Alirez and Jaydin Eierman were quietly two of the most dangerous 141-pounders during their NCAA careers. Alirez becoming the face of Northern Colorado’s entire program and Eierman perfectly embodying the spirit and style of Iowa Hawkeye wrestling.
Alirez built his name through his nonstop motor and slickness while Eierman became one of the sport’s most violent and unpredictable threats. Both men have seen an NCAA Finals match and know what it takes to win but have never faced opponents with the same set of threats the other possesses.
Alirez earned his reputation as one of the most likable wrestlers, on or off the mat, by overwhelming opponents with pressure that rarely slows down. His offense never comes from one clean attack or one big moment, it comes from forcing wrestlers into uncomfortable exchanges until the pace becomes impossible to handle.
He’s hard to grab ahold of, even harder to take down and almost impossible to keep down. The only way to slow down Alirez is to stay composed through constant forward pressure without beating yourself up over his elusiveness but even elite wrestlers have struggled to stop his momentum once he starts building rhythm.
What draws the two together so well is that both men are capable of memorable scrambles and highlight-reel attacks. Alirez using his blend of technique and smooth defense and Eierman with his ability to match even the most gritty of wrestler’s depths they will reach to win.
Where Alirez thrives through relentless pressure, Eierman thrives through grit and controlled chaos. His wrestling is built on timing, confidence and the ability to create offense from positions most wrestlers avoid. He’s not afraid of any position, any opponent and he doesn’t need constant forward movement to apply pressure because every scramble immediately becomes a threat. He doesn’t like to back off, but knows exactly when to do it.
Every defended shot creates another opening, every scramble becomes another opportunity for Eierman to attack from unexpected angles with “where did that come from?” strength.
Alirez has already introduced himself to the RAF world in dominant fashion. The NCAA National Champion took out fan-favorite Bryce Mitchell by way of 13-2 tech fall at RAF06.
Taking a quick break to kick off his MMA career, Alirez is back and ready to welcome the RAF rookie in Eierman.
Eierman is new to the RAF mat but not new to freestyle competition or the Missouri crowd. He’s back at home and poised to make a run in the hottest promotion in the sport. It’ll take the most of what sets both men apart to leave with a win on June 13 and we’re under “Match of the Night watch” early with this match.
Alirez vs Eierman isn’t just a meeting between two elite wrestlers, it’s a match between two different interpretations of violence and strategy.
Will Alirez’s slickness and pace wear down another elite opponent or will Eierman’s blunt force aggression steal the spotlight once again? Find out at RAF10!
